Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has announced his squad for Wednesday’s highly anticipated clash against La Liga rivals Barcelona, with four notable first-team players set to miss out.
The Rojiblancos are currently deep in preparations for a demanding schedule. Following a recent defeat to Barcelona in La Liga, the team will be aiming for a stronger showing. This match also comes ahead of a crucial Champions League quarter-final first-leg encounter with Hansi Flick’s side.
However, for this vital trip to the Spotify Camp Nou, Atlético will be significantly shorthanded. The travelling squad, confirmed on Tuesday, conspicuously omits Jan Oblak, Johnny Cardoso, Pablo Barrios, and José María Giménez.
An official statement released by Atlético Madrid clarified the situation regarding these absences: “Oblak, Johnny, and Barrios continue to recover from their respective injuries. Giménez, due to discomfort, is awaiting assessment and is also not included in the squad list.”
