Adam Aznou: Who is the Bayern Munich teenaged talent?

Bundesliga News

Adam Aznou has returned to Bayern Munich following a productive loan period with Real Valladolid in Spain. His return comes in time for potential involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Key Info

Age: 18 (born June 2, 2006)

Club: Bayern Munich

Position: Left-back/left-winger

Country: Morocco (three caps)

Career Path

Born in Barcelona, Aznou`s early football development took place at CF Damm, a Catalan youth club known for nurturing young talent. His evident ability led to a move to FC Barcelona`s renowned La Masia academy at the age of 13 in 2019.

He honed his skills at La Masia but opted to seek new opportunities in the summer of 2022 after contract discussions stalled. Bayern Munich quickly secured his signing. He immediately joined the U17 squad, where he scored twice and assisted twice in nine appearances. Promoted to the U19 team at the start of the 2023/24 season, he continued to perform strongly, netting three goals and providing four assists across 19 games, including three assists in seven UEFA Youth League fixtures.

Aznou`s progression saw him called up to Bayern`s second team, making his professional debut in a 1-0 defeat to Greuther Fürth II in February 2024. Prior to this, he had already been named among the substitutes for the senior squad due to injuries, first being included in the matchday squad on January 27, 2024, against Augsburg.

In the 2024/25 season, Aznou featured in six U19 matches and three UEFA Youth League games, scoring once and assisting once, before receiving a senior call-up and making his Bundesliga debut on November 2, 2024. Aged just 18 years and five months, he entered the game as a substitute for Alphonso Davies in the 80th minute of a 3-0 win against Union Berlin. He also made a late appearance in a 4-3 victory over Holstein Kiel in February 2025. Shortly thereafter, he moved on loan to Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid, where he made 13 appearances during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

International Career

Eligible to represent either Spain, his birth country, or Morocco through his parentage, Aznou initially played for Morocco`s U15 team before switching allegiance to Spain, featuring in nine games for their U16s and U17s. However, he later returned to the Moroccan setup, participating in their U17 squad in 2023. In August 2024, he received his first senior call-up for Morocco and debuted against Lesotho in an AFCON 2025 qualifier on September 9. He further impressed by providing an assist in his second international appearance, a 5-1 win in Gabon in November 2024.

Plays a bit like: Raphaël Guerreiro

Competition for the left-back position at Bayern is stiff, with players like Davies and Raphaël Guerreiro excelling there. Aznou’s playing profile suggests he could fit in well, particularly offering characteristics similar to the Portugal international. Both players are comfortable advancing into attack and are effective at involving teammates with accurate passes and crosses.

Much like Guerreiro, Aznou is inclined to cut inside and can occasionally operate in central midfield areas. While adding more goals to his game would be beneficial, his raw talent indicates significant potential for success at the top level.

Did you know?

Aznou was part of the same La Masia academy intake as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, both of whom are now established first-team players at Barcelona.

What they are saying

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany:

`Adam has done very well. In training, but also with the national team. And now, of course, it feels like we have an extra player to count on. He`s young, he can be proud, his parents can be proud.`

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl:

`He is an extremely talented guy. He has an incredible amount of potential and that`s why we`re happy that he`s now arrived at the professional level. Hopefully there will be many more games to come.`

Bayern Campus sporting director Holger Seitz:

`Adam is a creative winger with a lot of offensive drive. He is quick, technically adept, strong and provides good crosses. We are convinced that he will strengthen our junior teams and, above all, of his further development potential.`
