Aston Villa Identify ‘Sensational’ Keeper Target

Football News

According to recent reports, an outstanding goalkeeper has emerged as Aston Villa`s primary candidate to potentially succeed Emiliano Martinez during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Martinez`s Future at Villa Uncertain

Emiliano Martinez`s career trajectory significantly improved after his transfer to Villa Park from Arsenal, where he had been a less prominent player. His most notable achievement was his crucial role in Argentina`s victorious 2022 World Cup campaign, where he earned the Golden Glove award.

His stellar performances for the national team are mirrored by excellent form at the club level. He recently received the Premier League Save of the Season award for an exceptional save made during a match against Nottingham Forest.

Despite his success, the 32-year-old`s tenure with Villa might be nearing its conclusion due to increasing interest from other clubs. Manchester United is reportedly leading the chase, with Atletico Madrid also mentioned as a possible destination.

Consequently, manager Unai Emery might need to find a new goalkeeper this summer. Aston Villa`s recruitment department has reportedly identified OGC Nice`s Marcin Bulka as their primary target for the role.

According to The Boot Room, Marcin Bulka is becoming Aston Villa`s preferred option if Martinez departs. However, securing his transfer may face competition from Marseille and several other unnamed clubs.

Marcin Bulka

Nice had hoped to extend the goalkeeper`s contract, but talks have stalled. If Bulka does not agree to a new deal, the French club is expected to sell him this summer, potentially paving the way for a transfer to Villa Park.

`Sensational` Bulka Impressing in Ligue 1

Football scout Jacek Kulig has previously praised the Polish keeper, calling his club performances `sensational`. A standout moment was his remarkable display against Paris Saint-Germain in April.

In that match against the Champions League winners, the 25-year-old earned a perfect Sofascore rating of 10. His exceptional performance, including numerous vital saves, contributed significantly to his team`s unexpected 3-1 victory at the Parc des Princes.

French journalist Julien Froment was similarly impressed, describing the £6k-a-week Polish international`s role in the upset win as `colossal`. Such performances indicate he may be ready for a significant move this summer.

While Bulka appears to be an excellent potential recruit for Aston Villa, the club will still be hoping Martinez opts to stay, especially given his success at Villa Park, including winning the Best FIFA Men`s Goalkeeper award twice, most recently in 2024.
