La Liga giants Barcelona have commenced discussions with Jorge Mendes, the agent of João Cancelo, regarding the possibility of making the Portuguese defender’s move to the club permanent this summer.
Cancelo is currently in the middle of a six-month loan spell at the Catalan capital. Over recent weeks, largely due to injury issues on both flanks, the former Manchester City player has played an increasingly significant role under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick.
Throughout his time, Cancelo has predominantly impressed, particularly with his offensive contributions. Consequently, it is not a surprise that Barcelona is keen to retain their versatile full-back beyond the conclusion of his loan agreement.
Market insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed the ongoing talks, stating, “Barcelona have already started discussing with the agent of the player, Jorge Mendes, how to keep João Cancelo at the club.” The next crucial step for the Blaugrana will be to initiate negotiations with Cancelo’s parent club, Al-Hilal, to finalize the transfer.
