Barcelona Youngster Faces Year-Long Layoff After Knee Surgery

Barcelona’s promising young talent, Patricio Pacífico, is set for an extended period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for a severe knee injury.

The defender, who joined Barcelona in January on loan from Uruguayan club Defensor Sporting, had recently established himself as a key player for the club’s reserve team, Barça Atlètic. The 19-year-old defender, capable of playing at left-back or centre-back, had impressed in recent weeks.

However, his progress was halted late last month when he sustained a knee injury, later diagnosed as an ACL tear. Barcelona confirmed on Monday via their social media channels that Pacífico had undergone a successful operation.

A statement from the club read: “Barça Atlètic player Patricio Pacifico underwent successful surgery on Monday for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury he sustained during a match against UE Olot on April 19. The expected recovery time will be about 12 months.”

This significant injury casts uncertainty over Pacífico’s future at Barcelona beyond the summer.
