Beier Returns to Training
After completing individual training, Maximilian Beier rejoined the full squad for a larger training session on June 7th. The young forward had been in excellent form in March before sustaining an injury during the Bundesliga match against Gladbach in April, which caused him to miss the final games of the season.
Preparations Underway
The Dortmund players have returned to their training ground in Dortmund-Brackel to begin their preparations for the trip to the USA.
Immediate Focus on Training in the USA
Just one day after arriving, head coach Niko Kovač will oversee BVB`s first training session in the United States. This session will take place at the training facilities of MLS club Inter Miami, where global icon Lionel Messi plays. Inter Miami is also competing in the Club World Cup and will play the tournament`s opening match against Egyptian side Al Ahly.
Departure Scheduled for June 13th
Following a brief break after the Bundesliga season concluded, BVB recommenced training on June 2nd. The squad is scheduled to fly to North America eleven days later. The team will establish their base camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Coulibaly Recalled
Dortmund has decided to recall defender Soumaïla Coulibaly earlier than planned from his loan spell at Stade Brest. He is expected to bolster the squad traveling to the USA on June 13th.
Hoping for Guirassy`s Continued Form
Dortmund will be relying on their number 9, Serhou Guirassy, to maintain his impressive goalscoring form from the second half of the Bundesliga season and the UEFA Champions League as they compete in the Club World Cup.
Player Registration Deadlines
FIFA has introduced an additional transfer window specifically for the Club World Cup, allowing clubs to register players. The final squad lists must be submitted by June 10th, at which point the traveling roster for the USA will be confirmed. FIFA regulations also permit participating clubs to replace or add players during a limited in-competition period from June 27th to July 3rd, subject to specific limits and rules, if early transfers cannot be finalized beforehand.
Potential `Der Klassiker` Matchup
With both Bayern Munich and Dortmund participating in the Club World Cup, there is a possibility of another `Der Klassiker` encounter. However, the earliest these two Bundesliga rivals could meet is in the semi-finals. This scenario requires one team to finish first in their group and the other to finish second. If both teams finish in the same position (both first or both second), they would only be able to face each other in the final.
Tournament Structure and Schedule
After the group stage concludes, the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds, beginning with the Round of 16. The Round of 16 matches are scheduled from June 28th to July 1st, followed by the quarter-finals on July 4th and 5th, and the semi-finals on July 8th and 9th. The grand final will take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 13th, kicking off at 9 PM CET.
Dortmund`s Group Stage Path
Dortmund starts their tournament campaign against Group F opponents Fluminense in New York on June 17th. BVB will then face Mamelodi Sundowns on June 21st and Ulsan HD on June 25th, with both these matches being played in Cincinnati. The top two teams from each group, based on accumulated points, will progress to the knockout stage.
