Cassiano Kiala: Bayern Munich’s Rising Young Centre-Back

Bundesliga News

Cassiano Kiala, a promising young defender, has been included in Vincent Kompany`s Bayern Munich squad set to compete in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. His selection for the senior squad at just 16 years old underscores his significant potential.

Kiala joined Bayern from Hertha Berlin in 2024 and rapidly integrated into the U17 team. He was a consistent presence throughout the 2024/25 season, including appearances in the Bundesliga finals tournament.

On the international stage, Kiala is a key figure in Germany`s youth teams, having accumulated 12 caps for the U15 and U16 levels. He made his U16 debut last September and has since captained the side on three occasions, notably remaining undefeated while wearing the captain`s armband.

Style of Play

Possessing strength, speed, and athleticism, Kiala`s playing style draws comparisons to that of Bayern`s first-team centre-back, Dayot Upamecano. He is particularly effective when operating in a high defensive line and contributing to counter-pressing situations.

Making History

A notable fact is that if Kiala makes an appearance in the Club World Cup, he will become the second-youngest player ever to play for Bayern Munich. The current record holder is Paul Wanner, who debuted in January 2022 at the age of 16 years and 15 days.

According to the Club…

In Cassiano, we have been able to convince a talented youngster that Bayern is the right place to develop. He has received excellent coaching at his previous club and we have high hopes for the future. We are delighted that he will now play for Bayern and wish him much success at our campus.
