Deniz Undav Criticizes Borussia Dortmund After Stuttgart Loss, Details Adeyemi Confrontation

Bundesliga News

VfB Stuttgart striker Deniz Undav vented his frustration following a disheartening 0-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund in Saturday evening’s Bundesliga “Top-Spiel.” The home side seemed set for a goalless draw until Dortmund netted two goals in second-half added time, snatching an unlikely away victory.

Undav’s Post-Match Frustration and International Struggles

Despite being the Bundesliga’s current standout performer, Undav experienced a challenging international break. Although he scored a match-winning fourth DFB goal in his seventh cap, Germany’s national team coach Julian Nagelsmann expressed dissatisfaction with the 29-year-old’s substitute performance against Ghana.

German media largely echoed Nagelsmann’s view, questioning whether Undav’s versatility, while impressive, made him an awkward fit for the national squad. This recent scrutiny was compounded when Undav, who famously scored a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund earlier this season, became the target of mockery from BVB attacker Karim Adeyemi—another player currently struggling to secure a spot in the German national team.

Undav Details Confrontation with Karim Adeyemi

In the mixed zone after the match, Undav sharply criticized Dortmund’s approach, stating, “We were the better team throughout the entire game. We didn’t get the details right against a team that parked the bus throughout the entire match and got mercilessly punished in the end.” He further added, “They [Dortmund] didn’t really even believe in themselves, but [the fact that they won anyway] is what characterizes BVB’s season.”

Undav then explained the post-match incident involving Adeyemi: “There was a provocative goal celebration [from Karim Adeyemi after scoring the 0-1 at 90+4]. He did it based on the fact that I had done something similar [when scoring the hat trick in the reverse fixture].” This led to fan unrest, prompting several Stuttgart players, including Undav, to confront Adeyemi. Undav concluded, “Let’s just call it a miscommunication.”
