FC Porto has officially completed the permanent signing of Brazilian defender Lipe Silva. The move follows a successful loan period where the 23-year-old centre-back played for the club`s B team.
Silva, originally from Florianópolis, Brazil, and formerly with Brazilian club Avaí, initially joined Porto B on loan from fellow Portuguese side Gil Vicente. His season with the reserves proved to be remarkably productive. He distinguished himself by making the most appearances for the Porto B squad during the recent campaign, featuring in 31 matches. Furthermore, he demonstrated a surprising attacking threat for a defender, managing to score three goals. This consistent performance and evident potential clearly made a strong case for his long-term acquisition by the club hierarchy.
Speaking about solidifying his position at one of Portugal`s premier clubs, Silva expressed significant satisfaction. “I am very happy,” he stated, reflecting on the transfer. “It was something I wanted ever since I initially signed for Porto on loan. At the time, I was very pleased, naturally, but my real desire was always to sign permanently. This is truly the realization of a dream for me.”
The defender has committed his future to the Dragons, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the Estádio do Dragão until the end of the 2029 season. Silva`s journey to Porto began when he was sold by Avaí during the 2023 season for a reported fee of approximately R$ 3 million (Brazilian Reais). He moved to Gil Vicente after establishing himself as a starter for Avaí in Brazil`s Série B. He made nine appearances for Gil Vicente during the 2023/24 season before subsequently moving on loan to Porto B the following year, a move that has now culminated in a permanent deal.
