La Liga side Elche has confirmed a new permanent addition to their midfield. The club has decided to extend Gonzalo Villar’s stay beyond the summer.
Villar had initially returned to La Liga in the January transfer window, joining Elche on a short-term deal after a brief six-month stint with Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. The former Granada player quickly became an important figure for Elche, contributing to their escape from relegation by making 12 appearances under manager Eder Sarabia.
The 28-year-old’s impactful performances have convinced the club’s management to secure him on a long-term basis.
An official statement from Elche read: “Elche CF has reached an agreement with GNK Dinamo Zagreb for the permanent transfer of midfielder Gonzalo Villar. The player from Murcia will remain with the club until June 2029, extending a period in which he has established himself as a key player for the team.”

Official: Elche Announce Midfield Signing
La Liga outfit Elche announced on Friday a new permanent addition to the club’s midfield ranks. This decision comes after the club’s management opted to extend Gonzalo Villar’s time with them beyond the summer.
Villar had secured a return to La Liga during the January transfer window. After just six months in Croatia playing for Dinamo Zagreb, the former Granada player was signed by Elche on a short-term basis. Villar went on to play an important role for the team, notching 12 appearances as Eder Sarabia’s squad escaped relegation back to the second tier of Spanish football. His exploits proved sufficient to convince those in the boardroom in Alicante of the merits of keeping Villar long-term.
As per a statement released across Elche’s website and social media platforms on Friday: ‘Elche CF has reached an agreement with GNK Dinamo Zagreb for the permanent transfer of midfielder Gonzalo Villar. The player from Murcia will remain with the club until June 2029, extending a period in which he has established himself as a key player for the team.’
