Everton in race with West Ham to sign midfielder who can leave for £25m

Football News

According to a recent report, Everton is competing with West Ham, David Moyes` former team, to sign a “very good” international midfielder who could be allowed to leave this summer for £25 million.

The “Toffees” are considering various squad strengthening options

The transfer window for Everton has been quite quiet so far, but that could change soon as pre-season training approaches. This summer, Everton has already signed Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent basis and may soon add defender Kenny Tete on a free transfer, as reported by BBC Sport.

The deal is said to be close to completion, as signing a new right-back became a priority after Ashley Young`s departure upon contract expiry.

The Merseysiders are also continuing talks with Villarreal regarding the transfer of forward Thierno Barry, but he is not the only forward on their list of interests. Goodison News reports that the “Toffees” are interested in Millwall striker Mihailo Ivanovic, who scored 13 goals in the Championship last season.

Everton does not intend to stop there, and a recent report has indicated they have shown interest in James McAtee from Manchester City. The young Englishman appears ready to leave the Etihad this summer.

Everton competes with West Ham for Onyedika

McAtee may not be the last midfielder to arrive at Goodison Park this summer. According to Sacha Tavolieri, Everton is in a leading position in the race for Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, although the “Hammers” are also among the contenders.

Tavolieri claims that both clubs are leading the race for the midfielder this summer, with West Ham showing the most concrete interest. He adds that, although Onyedika`s contract runs until 2027, the Belgian club would be happy to receive around €30 million, which is roughly £25 million, this summer.

The 24-year-old has been with his current club since August 2022, winning the Belgian league once and the Belgian Cup in 2025. Onyedika, who has earned 16 caps for Nigeria, was a key player for Club Brugge last season, making 25 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League and starting all 11 of their Champions League matches.

Onyedika is relatively unknown in English football, having played in Denmark for Midtjylland and Fredericia before moving to Belgium. However, according to reporter Graeme Bailey, the midfielder is a “very good player” and a “threat”. He has also been linked with a move to Leeds United.
