Everton’s Declan Rice Comparison: Approach Made for Former £60m Brazil Star

Football News

Everton is reportedly looking to sign a “world class” player who is well-known in the Premier League but is currently not a regular starter at his present club.

Several potential signings for the summer transfer window are being discussed for the Blues. Among these is Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper. The 25-year-old Englishman played in every one of his team`s 46 Championship matches last season, contributing to their run to the playoff final. Although they lost to Sunderland at Wembley, missing out on promotion, Cooper might be interested in a move to the top division.

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is another player who might prefer to stay in the Premier League after his side`s relegation. Everton are rumoured to be interested in signing him as they aim to improve their midfield options.

Furthermore, Millwall forward Mihailo Ivanovic is reportedly a target for the Merseyside club. The Serbian could potentially serve as a strong alternative or partner for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. At just 20 years old, he scored an impressive 12 goals in 23 Championship starts last term and could provide a more traditional striker profile alongside the agile Thierno Barry.

Everton Makes Approach for “World Class” Midfielder

Reports indicate that Everton has initiated contact regarding Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, viewing him as an excellent candidate to bring into the squad this summer. The Blues are said to have requested details about the 27-year-old, though it is noted that no official offer has been made yet.

He moved to Juventus for around £42m last summer, but his value was once significantly higher. During his successful period at Aston Villa, Neil Moxley suggested that quoting him at £60m seemed low, comparing it to Declan Rice`s £105m transfer to Arsenal as a benchmark.

Despite having a less impactful season in Turin last year, Luiz is a player who has consistently proven his quality at the highest level during his many influential years at Villa. He could be a fantastic acquisition for Everton.

The Brazilian boasts 175 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals and providing 18 assists. His former teammate John McGinn lauded his ability, calling him “world class,” and pundit Jermaine Pennant previously argued he was a better option than Rice.

“Any team would dream to have Rice, but there are better sixes in the Premier League at the moment. I would say Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, I think he can do everything that Rice can do and better. I think he assists more, he chips in with goals more than Rice. Creativity-wise he`s better, flair is better, he can put in a tackle just like Rice, break up play just like Rice. So I think if someone said to me you can have Douglas Luiz for £60m or Declan Rice for £100m, easy every day of the week, Douglas Luiz.”

Luiz is still in his prime, meaning Everton would not be signing a player whose best years are behind him. His dynamic box-to-box style could be a significant asset for manager David Moyes.
