Mohamed Salah's Future: Saudi Pro League, Europe, or USA? Options Explored

July 11, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

Saudi Arabia stands out as the most probable next destination for Mohamed Salah. His immense stature as a key figure in both the Middle East and the wider Arab world makes such a move incredibly impactful. For Saudi clubs, Salah represents an invaluable asset as arguably the world's foremost Muslim footballer.

In 2023, Al-Ittihad made a substantial bid of £150 million for Salah, which Liverpool ultimately rejected. This offer came during Jürgen Klopp's final season at the club, a period where Salah consistently delivered outstanding performances in goals and assists.

So, what potential options exist for Salah within the Saudi Pro League (SPL)? The 'big four' clubs—Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Nassr—all owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), fully grasp the global influence Salah could bring to the league. Beyond these giants, Al-Qadsiah, managed by former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and backed by Saudi oil giant Aramco, may also express interest.

At 33, Salah remains a prime target for the SPL, which would eagerly anticipate uniting him with Cristiano Ronaldo. The question, however, remains: can the league truly afford him?

"Without a doubt," affirms football finance expert Kieran Maguire. "They are currently paying Cristiano Ronaldo £170 million a year. Salah's present salary is £20 million a year, so finances will not be an obstacle."

Maguire adds, "The crucial factor is whether Salah himself believes it's the right decision. Moreover, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East must also be taken into account. While things might calm down by the summer, it will certainly play a role in his considerations."
