Barcelona presidential hopeful Joan Laporta recently seized the opportunity to respond to criticisms from club icon Xavi.
This follows Xavi’s repeated expressions of disillusionment with Laporta’s leadership and strategic decisions.
Xavi is a prominent advocate for Victor Font, who stands as Laporta’s principal rival in the forthcoming presidential elections at Spotify Camp Nou.
During a recent interview with La Vanguardia, the former midfielder directed a fresh round of accusations and sharp remarks towards the current Spanish patron.
In turn, Laporta held his own media exchange on Monday, appearing alongside the aforementioned Font.
During this session, the frontrunner for re-election in Catalonia’s capital retorted against Xavi, openly questioning the 46-year-old’s capabilities as a manager:
“Xavi’s interview both surprised and pained me. I understand his feelings of hurt. With the identical squad, Flick achieves victories… and Xavi did not. With Xavi, I had a sense we were destined to lose, but with Flick, I now feel we are poised to win.”
