Arsenal supporters can look forward to a busy transfer period ahead, as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to refine his squad and build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title. Following the conclusion of the season where Arsenal finished second, Arteta conveyed his enthusiasm for the upcoming summer window, admitting the prospect gives him “goosebumps.”
While much focus has been on securing a new striker, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko mentioned as potential targets, Arsenal are also reportedly looking to strengthen other areas, including the wing, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Having narrowly missed out on the title, the club appears ready to make significant moves in the market. Arteta confirmed that groundwork for the new season, including pre-season plans, has been underway for several months.
A key player on Arsenal`s radar has been Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. After previous reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and other outlets suggested a deal was close, the situation became less clear when Zubimendi himself publicly denied claims of a scheduled medical. The president of Real Sociedad also reportedly dismissed Arsenal`s interest.
However, journalist Graeme Bailey has offered a counter-perspective on the confusing situation. Speaking to The Boot Room, Bailey stated that, from Arsenal`s standpoint, the transfer for the 26-year-old Spanish international is considered a “done deal.” He indicated that the club is not concerned by Zubimendi`s recent comments or any potential interest from Real Madrid, suggesting they anticipated such developments.
“Arsenal are aware of the quotes from Zubimendi – but from what I am told, the deal is considered done at the Emirates,” Bailey commented, adding, “They are not worried, they knew these things might come up… From what I am told, this is happening – it is a done deal. But obviously, the fans want to see that picture of him holding the shirt up, signed and sealed. Until that point, speculation is open to continue.”
Described as a “world-class” midfielder, Zubimendi has been a long-term target for Arsenal since January. His arrival would be a significant boost for Arteta, particularly with Jorginho`s confirmed departure and uncertainty surrounding Thomas Partey`s future.
