Leeds United is reportedly at the forefront of the competition to sign a “fantastic” defender valued at £8.5 million, in addition to potentially securing Sebastiaan Bornauw.
Leeds closing in on third signing of the summer transfer window
The Whites have already made a promising start to the summer transfer window by bringing in Lukas Nmecha and Jaka Bijol from Wolfsburg and Udinese, respectively. However, recognizing the significant difference between the Championship and the Premier League in recent seasons, Leeds understands the necessity for further signings to enhance their prospects of avoiding relegation next season.
The Yorkshire club is progressing quickly towards their next signing. Reports indicate Leeds are close to finalizing a deal for Bornauw from Wolfsburg. The initial transfer fee is said to be €6 million, which is approximately £5 million.
Leeds is reportedly preparing a four-year contract offer for the defender at Elland Road, with a signing potentially imminent. After an injury-affected season, the Bundesliga side appears ready to sell the player before his contract expires next summer.
Leeds leading Fulham in race to sign Caci
Leeds is also reported to be interested in signing Anthony Caci from Bundesliga club Mainz 05.
While Jayden Bogle is seen as a key player, Leeds is focused on increasing squad depth, and Caci is a player favored by the Championship title winners. In fact, Leeds is reportedly ahead of Fulham in the pursuit of Caci, as they are in a better position to offer him more opportunities for first-team football compared to their Premier League rivals.
It is also suggested that Leeds is actively working on a deal for Caci, and the former France under-23 international could be acquired for around £8.5 million.
The 27-year-old, who has been described as “fantastic,” is entering the final year of his contract with the German side. Despite missing only one league game last season, Mainz seems inclined to receive a transfer fee for their key defender rather than risk losing him for free next summer if a new agreement is not reached.
Should he join, Caci would provide significant defensive versatility for Leeds throughout the upcoming season, as he can also play as a centre-back and right midfielder if needed.
