Man Utd make enquiry to sign “generational” £85m ace

Football News

Under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United`s transfer strategy this window is very clear, focusing on strengthening key positions across the squad.

The Red Devils have already made a significant acquisition this window, signing Brazilian player Matheus Cunha from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5m.

However, their activity in the transfer market shows no sign of stopping, with many players being linked ahead of the 2025/26 season.

While keepers, defenders, and midfielders are also being considered, the attack is clearly the priority for investment, highlighted by their pursuit of multiple forwards this window.

There`s the exciting possibility of Cunha being joined by other top talents, as several high-profile players continue to be linked with expensive transfers to Old Trafford this summer.

Update on United`s Summer Attacker Search

Striker Moise Kean is definitely on the radar, with his £44m release clause becoming active from July 1st. This could be a great deal considering he scored 19 Serie A goals this season.

Antoine Semenyo is another possibility for the attack, which might lead to competition with Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs are also strongly interested in signing the Ghanaian player, whose price is £65m.

However, in the last few days, another player has appeared as a potential target: West Ham United`s Mohammed Kudus, according to Sami Mokbel of the BBC.

Mokbel reports that United have already contacted West Ham regarding a transfer for the winger, who has an £85m release clause.

`My information is that all of the top six in the Premier League have checked in on the conditions of that deal. He`s got an £85m release clause for Premier League clubs, but I think West Ham would be willing to go below that.

`They wouldn`t take masses below that, but they would be open to a negotiation. There is a long-term interest there [from Arsenal] and as I understand that, there has been an enquiry from the Premier League`s top six.`

Mokbel also suggests West Ham might accept less than his release clause, but Arsenal, who have long been interested in the 24-year-old, could provide strong competition.

Why the £85m target for United could be as exciting as Mbeumo

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has consistently been linked with a transfer to United this summer, as Amorim aims to reinforce the attack at Old Trafford.

Brentford`s Bryan Mbeumo reacts

It seems a deal for Mbeumo might be close, following United`s second offer of around £60m for the 25-year-old.

Mbeumo has reportedly agreed personal terms to join United, but small details still need to be finalised before the Cameroon international`s summer transfer is complete.

Although a £60m price tag seems high, Mbeumo would bring the increased attacking threat United is seeking, especially after scoring 20 league goals this season – the most for any player outside of European qualification spots.

It`s unclear if United will still target Kudus if they sign Mbeumo, but acquiring the West Ham star would also be an excellent signing.

Comparing their stats from last season, the Ghanaian midfielder (Kudus) performed better than Mbeumo in several important metrics, potentially offering Amorim another fantastic attacking choice.

Kudus, described as a “generational” talent by journalist Gary Al-Smith, matches Mbeumo in goals per shot on target this season and shows the potential to cause serious problems for opposition defenses at Old Trafford, potentially alongside Mbeumo.

How Kudus compares to Mbeumo in the PL (2024/25)
Statistics (per 90) Kudus Mbeumo
Games played 32 38
Goals & assists 8 27
Shots taken 2.6 2.1
Goals per shot on target 0.4 0.4
Pass accuracy 84% 66%
Passes into final third 1.8 1.6
Take-ons completed 3.2 1.3
Take-on success 48% 46%

Kudus completed more passes and made more passes into the final third per 90 minutes last season, demonstrating a creative ability that could make him a great partner for Mbeumo.

The West Ham player was also much better at dribbling, completing more take-ons per 90 with a higher success rate, showing he`s eager to drive forward with the ball.

Following Cunha`s arrival and the potential signing of Mbeumo from Brentford, it`s unclear if United will actively pursue another attacker this transfer window.

Nevertheless, Kudus possesses the qualities to significantly boost the attack`s quality and depth, helping restore the intimidating presence the club has missed in recent years.
