Bryan Mbeumo has been widely discussed in connection with Manchester United recently, generating significant buzz among fans.
The Brentford forward established himself as a key Premier League figure by scoring 20 goals for Thomas Frank`s side last season.
His scoring record has put him on Manchester United`s radar, and they have reportedly made two offers to sign the 25-year-old during the current transfer window.
Their latest bid, around £62.5 million including add-ons, was rejected by Brentford, who value the Cameroonian at £70 million for a summer transfer.
Mbeumo himself has reportedly expressed a wish to join Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United`s Search for a Striker This Summer
Victor Osimhen is another striker back on United`s list of targets this summer. The Nigerian forward has attracted interest after scoring 37 goals on loan at Galatasaray last season.
Sporting CP`s key player, Viktor Gyokeres, also remains a target for United, although the Swedish striker has reportedly indicated a preference for Arsenal.
Recently, Ivan Toney has also emerged as a potential target for United, according to a recent report from Football Insider.
The report suggests the English forward is interested in returning to the Premier League, less than a year after moving to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
Furthermore, it is claimed that United officials have been monitoring the 29-year-old recently and that Toney `desires` a move to the club, having scored 30 goals in 44 Saudi League games.
Why Ivan Toney Could Be the Ideal Striker Partner for Mbeumo at United
As noted earlier, Mbeumo`s abilities have impressed many and led to significant interest from Manchester United.
However, he typically plays on the right wing. At Old Trafford, he might need to adapt, potentially playing as a number ten behind the main striker.
This attacking midfield role could suit him well, especially if United manages to sign both Mbeumo and his former Brentford teammate, Ivan Toney.
The 25-year-old played alongside Toney for four seasons at Brentford, where they were instrumental in helping the team achieve promotion from the Championship and then establish themselves in the Premier League.
In the 2020/21 season, they had a combined 59 goal contributions (goals + assists), with Toney scoring 31 and Mbeumo providing 10 assists – both were club highs.
Season | Games | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
2023/24 | 42 | 13 | 10 |
2022/23 | 71 | 29 | 12 |
2021/22 | 68 | 16 | 12 |
2020/21 | 95 | 38 | 20 |
Total: | 276 | 96 | 54 |
Over their four seasons together at Brentford, the duo led the team in combined goals and assists in three of them. The exception was 2023/24, when Toney served a ban for betting violations.
Although they are no longer teammates, Toney, described as “sensational” by journalist Simon Stone, still managed 30 goals in the 2024/25 season, ten more than Mbeumo`s total in 2023/24.

Their individual goalscoring records from recent seasons represent a significant attacking threat, showcasing the potential boost they could offer Manchester United.
Given Toney`s reported desire to return to the Premier League, signing him could be a valuable move for United, especially considering his proven goalscoring record in the English top flight.
Should Mbeumo also join, the duo could recreate their successful partnership from Brentford, potentially playing a key role in helping United compete for a European spot next season.
