Reports suggest that Newcastle United is showing strong interest in signing a defender who is considered “priceless” by his current club.
Newcastle Targets Wingers and Centre-Backs This Summer
The Magpies had a successful season last year, not only winning the EFL Cup but also securing qualification for the Champions League.
This success allows them to aim for top-tier players. They have reportedly sent scouts to observe Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn, viewing him as a potential alternative to Nottingham Forest`s Anthony Elanga.
Anthony Gordon`s performance last season raised questions about his long-term future at St James` Park, and Lyon`s Malick Fofana has been mentioned as a possible replacement.
The 20-year-old Belgian has significant potential and could be an exciting addition on the left side.
Recruiting a new centre-back is also essential to bring fresh energy to an aging part of the squad. While Marc Guehi continues to be linked with Newcastle, Sporting CP`s Ousmane Diomande appears more likely at this stage, particularly as Liverpool seems close to signing Guehi.
Newcastle `Very Interested` in Italy Defender
According to Italian media, Newcastle is “very interested” in signing Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini. The coming days are considered crucial, as his current club is unwilling to lose him, and Antonio Conte`s Napoli is also showing rival interest.
Scalvini has previously been linked with Newcastle as a strong candidate following Sven Botman`s ACL injury, at which point he was valued around £43m. That transfer did not materialize, but he remains an excellent option for the Magpies. He could immediately become a key player and a long-term anchor for the defense.
Scalvini has already made 107 appearances for Atalanta, which is impressive for his age. He has also been described as “priceless” by data analyst Sanjay and has earned eight caps for Italy.
Securing the player will clearly be challenging. Atalanta sees him as an invaluable asset crucial for their future development, even though he is recovering from his own recent ACL damage.
Despite these difficulties, given his immense potential, the Magpies should make every effort to persuade the Serie A club, thereby acquiring a truly exceptional young player.
