Official: Borussia Dortmund Appoint Nils-Ole Book as Sporting Director, Replacing Sebastian Kehl – Contract Until 2029

Bundesliga News

Borussia Dortmund has officially announced the appointment of Nils-Ole Book as their new sporting director, taking over from Sebastian Kehl.

This follows yesterday’s revelation that Kehl and Dortmund had mutually agreed to part ways after his nearly four-year tenure as sporting director.

Book arrives from Elversberg, with reports indicating that die Schwarzgelben had to secure his release from his contract for an undisclosed fee. The 40-year-old is set to commence his work at the club this Wednesday, having signed a deal that binds him to Dortmund until 2029.

The former Elversberg sporting director is widely recognized as one of the key architects behind his previous club’s remarkable rise from the amateur leagues to the fringes of the Bundesliga. During his time there, he successfully brought in notable talents such as Nick Woltemade, Paul Wanner, and Fisnik Asllani on loan, alongside unearthing and signing Younes Ebnoutalib.

Upon joining Dortmund, Book shared his excitement:

“Borussia Dortmund is undoubtedly one of Europe’s largest clubs, and I am incredibly enthusiastic to immerse myself fully. My ambition is to play my part in ensuring BVB’s continued success, and I eagerly anticipate contributing my ideas and convictions while collaborating with a strong team. For me, Borussia Dortmund is a special club, with an emotional connection that dates back to my childhood. I therefore want to extend my sincere thanks to SV Elversberg, and particularly Dominik Holzer, for enabling me to begin my work in Dortmund without delay.”

What Lies Ahead for Book at Dortmund:

With his immediate integration into the club’s operations this Wednesday, the 40-year-old will instantly face significant responsibilities. His first major task will be to try and finalize the contract extension for central defender Nico Schlotterbeck. Subsequently, he will be tasked with orchestrating a crucial summer transfer window, which is anticipated to be a period of substantial activity for BVB.

The scope and scale of these operations will represent a monumental shift from his prior experiences at Elversberg.
