Former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has issued a strong piece of advice to his old club, the Spotify Camp Nou.
He has urged them not to abandon their entire project if they fail to achieve Champions League glory in the coming seasons.
Barcelona recently concluded another dominant domestic campaign in 2025/26, securing their second consecutive La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
However, their European performance once again fell short.
Despite being heavily favored, Hansi Flick’s squad was eliminated from the Champions League by Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals.
During a recent media interaction, Pep Guardiola was asked about Barcelona’s recent European struggles.
The renowned tactician seized the opportunity to offer some guidance to Joan Laporta and the club’s leadership.
“What is Barça missing to win the Champions League? The Champions League is a competition that can destroy projects, and I hope that is not the case at Barça.
“We must not believe that just because you don’t win it, everything that has been built is worthless. The league is the competition that provides consistency and continuity. In the Champions League, you need to reach the decisive stages in good form, without injuries, and refereeing also plays a significant role.
“What is important is that the daily work is excellent, that the team continues to grow and improve, and that they do not consider the season a failure simply because they do not reach the Champions League final or win it. The league is what forms the basis for judging whether a season has been good or not.”
