Real Madrid’s young talent, Arda Güler, has publicly conveyed an apology to the people of his homeland, Türkiye. This follows the national team’s premature departure from the 2026 World Cup.
Türkiye’s aspirations for the tournament came to an end after a second group stage match against Paraguay. The team was in a must-win situation after an initial defeat to Australia.
Despite Paraguay being a man down late in the first half, Türkiye was unable to find a breakthrough and ultimately lost the match 1-0. This result confirmed their elimination.
Arda Güler, who started in the game, was among the players who struggled to make a significant impact in the attacking third.
Speaking to the media after the match, with their World Cup journey concluded, the Real Madrid midfielder offered his apologies to the Turkish public:
“We want to apologize, we feel ashamed. We all play for top clubs and we should be performing much better in this competition,” Güler stated. “In two games, we’ve scored zero goals, and that’s not acceptable.”
