La Liga giants Barcelona have reportedly reached a pivotal decision concerning their centre-forward options for the upcoming season, indicating a clear preference between two prominent players.
According to ESPN, Robert Lewandowski has been identified as the favored candidate to remain with the club.
With Barcelona actively seeking to reinforce its attacking line-up, including potentially bringing in a new primary striker for Hansi Flick, the club needed to clarify its plans for a crucial backup role. The choice ultimately came down to either retaining Robert Lewandowski or Ferran Torres.
Current media reports strongly suggest that Lewandowski is the top choice for this supporting position.
ESPN’s detailed report provides insight into the club’s strategic reasoning: “Torres is out of contract in 2027 and the club would prefer to move him on than Robert Lewandowski, given this is the last summer they can obtain a fee for the Spain international, to raise money to invest in signings.” This statement highlights a significant financial incentive to sell Torres.
Furthermore, it has been noted that Barcelona President Joan Laporta is reportedly eager to initiate discussions to renew Lewandowski’s current contract, which is nearing its expiry, as soon as possible.
