Manchester United are set to strengthen their attack further before the summer transfer window closes in September, following an agreement to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Man Utd in talks to sign Premier League attacker
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are in discussions with Brentford regarding a potential transfer for Bryan Mbeumo to enhance their attacking options.
Plettenberg reported that United has a `verbal agreement` with the 25-year-old winger, but they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham, who recently appointed Mbeumo`s former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, are hoping Frank can persuade the forward to join them in North London.
The Cameroon international played as an inside right for Brentford in the 2024/25 season and could potentially compete for one of the two number ten roles in Ruben Amorim`s 3-4-2-1 formation alongside Cunha.
Mbeumo`s return of 20 goals and seven assists in the Premier League for Brentford demonstrates his capability to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford and boost the team`s offense.
However, United`s transfer activity won`t end there, as the Red Devils are also aiming to sign a new centre-forward in addition to Cunha and possibly Mbeumo.
Man Utd remain keen on Amorim favourite
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United has made recent inquiries regarding Sporting`s number nine, Viktor Gyokeres.
Romano states that securing a deal for the Sweden international will be challenging for United, as his primary goal is a move to Arsenal.

Romano notes that the Gunners are evaluating their striker targets, with RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko also being considered.
This implies that a move to Arsenal for Gyokeres is not finalized, keeping the possibility open for United depending on Arsenal`s ultimate decision.
Indeed, Romano indicates that the Red Devils `remain keen` on the former Coventry City forward, even though they currently believe a transfer is unlikely due to his stated preference for Arsenal.
In April, football statistician Spencer Mossman lauded Gyokeres as a `lethal` striker and potentially `the best finisher in the world`, underscoring the elite finishing ability United could gain if they manage to sign the Swedish star.
24/25 season | Gyokeres (Liga Portugal) | Premier League`s best |
---|---|---|
xG | 30.95 | 25.37 (Mo Salah) |
Goals | 39 | 29 (Mo Salah) |
xG differential | +8.05 | +7.74 (Bryan Mbeumo) |

As illustrated in the table above, Gyokeres demonstrates the potential to be a top finisher in the Premier League, having significantly outperformed his Expected Goals (xG) in a way that surpassed the top performers in England`s top division last season.
The Swedish international, who also scored ten more league goals than any player in England`s top flight, had an exceptional 2024/25 season for Sporting. He would be a superb signing for United if they can overcome the odds and secure his transfer ahead of Arsenal.
