Following Borussia Dortmund`s 1-0 victory over Ulsan HD in their final group match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, sporting director Sebastian Kehl addressed questions regarding potential player changes at the club.
As Dortmund secured their progression to the Club World Cup round of 16, where they are set to face Mexican side Monterrey, Kehl was actively engaged in managing the team`s personnel situation.
After the win against Ulsan HD, Kehl was specifically asked about the futures of Jamie Gittens, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Youssoufa Moukoko.
Gittens was absent from the match against the South Korean team due to illness. Kehl first provided an update on the English player`s health, confirming he “He`s already feeling better.” He then spoke about the transfer rumors surrounding the winger.
“It`s typical for these matters to emerge and attract media attention,” Kehl commented. “Nevertheless, there is no specific update concerning Jamie at this moment. I am currently involved in discussions regarding his situation. Everyone will need to observe how things progress over the next few days. I cannot disclose anything further currently.” Gittens is under contract with Dortmund until June 30, 2028.
BVB`s sporting director also discussed Chukwuemeka, whose loan agreement with the club is set to end on June 30. However, Kehl could not confirm whether the game against Ulsan marked his final appearance in a Dortmund shirt.
“I will be conducting more conversations regarding him,” Kehl added. “I can state that I have prepared thoroughly for this and have been in contact with Chelsea. We are interested in retaining the player beyond June 30. We do not have a match scheduled until July 1, and we are quite optimistic about making this happen.”
Recently, speculation has also been circulating about youth academy graduate Moukoko potentially leaving Dortmund permanently.
When questioned about the likelihood of finalizing an agreement with Danish champions Copenhagen, Kehl responded: “I am in discussions, including talks with Youssoufa himself – that is accurate.”
He elaborated, “In the past few days, there has been some movement concerning one or two personnel issues. However, certain details still require clarification. As soon as these matters are resolved in the coming days, we will issue an announcement. But we haven`t reached that stage yet.”
Moukoko spent the previous season on loan at French Ligue 1 club Nice and is contracted to BVB until June 30, 2026.
