Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy concluded the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League season as one of the leading goalscorers. The 29-year-old`s impressive tally of 13 goals in the recently finished tournament saw him share the top spot with Barcelona`s Raphinha.
Guirassy achieved this remarkable haul of 13 goals in just 14 Champions League appearances. He also contributed four assists in Europe`s premier club competition this term as BVB reached the quarter-finals, a year after their run to the final.
The former VfB Stuttgart striker began his scoring campaign in September against Club Brugge. He then netted twice in Dortmund`s emphatic 7-1 win over Celtic. Subsequent goals came against Dinamo Zagreb, Bologna, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Sporting. Notably, he also scored a second brace of the competition against Barcelona in November.
Dortmund later met the Catalan giants again in the last eight. Despite Guirassy`s memorable hat-trick in a thrilling second leg, the Bundesliga side ultimately couldn`t overcome the aggregate deficit, losing 5-3 to Barcelona.
Barcelona`s Raphinha, who found the net in the first leg of that tie, also finished the Champions League campaign with 13 goals. Bayern Munich`s Harry Kane, who topped the Bundesliga scoring charts for the second consecutive season, finished joint-second in the UCL scoring list with 11 goals, level with former Bayern and Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski.
Guirassy is now the third Dortmund striker to surpass 10 goals in a single UCL season, joining Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland. His performance this term has set a new club record for the most goals scored by a Dortmund player in a single Champions League campaign.
Bundesliga Performance
Guirassy`s prolific form wasn`t limited to European competition. The former Rennes attacker also scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga, finishing as joint-second top scorer alongside Bayer Leverkusen`s Patrik Schick. Dortmund secured fourth place and qualification for the 2025/26 Champions League by winning seven and drawing one of their final eight league matches. Guirassy was instrumental in this achievement, scoring seven goals in those last eight Bundesliga appearances.
Upcoming Fixtures
Dortmund and Guirassy will next focus on the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which starts on June 17th. The Black-Yellows are placed in a group with Fluminense, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Ulsan, aiming to qualify for the knockout stages.
