In a statement to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turkish midfielder declared, "I only want Inter," effectively shutting down any possibility of a move back to his homeland. He explicitly stated, "Forget Turkey, I'm staying here."

These declarations were highlighted on the front page of Gazzetta on Saturday, coinciding with Inter's pre-season friendly against Juventus in Perth, the last scheduled encounter between the two rivals until 2027.

According to reports, Çalhanoğlu's firm stance comes after Galatasaray's prolonged pursuit of him faltered. He is now reportedly anticipating communication from Inter's management regarding a new contract.

Reasons Behind Galatasaray's Failed Pursuit

Çalhanoğlu, a known supporter of Galatasaray, had been linked with a "dream" return to Turkey for over a year. The interest intensified during the first half of 2026, with some Turkish media outlets claiming the transfer was "99% certain" and suggesting Çalhanoğlu was less inclined to renew his Inter contract, with ongoing discussions between his representatives and Galatasaray.

However, Galatasaray reportedly balked at paying more than approximately €15 million for a player who would represent a significant asset for Inter as a free agent in 2027.
