Stuttgart has officially announced that midfielders Angelo Stiller and Chris Führich have been selected for the German national team. Both players initially missed out on Julian Nagelsmann’s squad when it was revealed last Thursday, despite their exceptional form at the MHP Arena, which has seen VfB Stuttgart climb to an impressive third place in the Bundesliga standings.
However, the door opened for the Stuttgart duo following unfortunate injuries to Bayern Munich’s Aleksander Pavlovic and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha. These developments have provided Stiller and Führich with their opportunity to represent their country.
Should they have been called up earlier?
Many observers believed that at least Angelo Stiller warranted a place in the initial squad. The midfielder has been a consistently crucial player in Sebastian Hoeneß’s team, demonstrating week after week that he belongs in the starting midfield, potentially alongside talents like Pavlovic.
It’s worth noting that Nagelsmann had previously expressed a preference for Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka in the defensive midfield role, a decision that has been debated given Goretzka’s increasingly limited playing time at his club.
