Tottenham leading race for Eberechi Eze signing

Football News

Tottenham Hotspur is considered the frontrunner to acquire a significant player this summer. This potential signing would strengthen the squad for new manager Thomas Frank as the club aims to build on their successful 2024/2025 season, where they secured a trophy.

Frank takes over from Ange Postecoglou, who ended the club`s long trophy drought, which is a significant achievement to follow.

The memorable 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final secured Tottenham their first European trophy since 1984 under Postecoglou. Despite this success, his domestic campaign was challenging, setting a club record for Premier League losses in a season (22). Nevertheless, Postecoglou is remembered fondly by fans for bringing silverware.

Tottenham`s best-performing regulars in the Premier League – 2024/2025 Average match rating
Son Heung-min 7.00
James Maddison 6.98
Pedro Porro 6.95
Dominic Solanke 6.84
Dejan Kulusevski 6.83

Postecoglou was well-liked by the players; several, including James Maddison, Pedro Porro, and Lucas Bergvall, publicly supported him.

With Postecoglou (reportedly linked with a move to MLS side Los Angeles FC) having departed, Frank`s task is to stabilize the team and prepare them for a crucial season, which includes participation in the Champions League.

Chairman Daniel Levy is said to be fully supporting Frank with new signings. Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze is widely rumored to be a primary target for strengthening the attack.

Eze`s contribution last season, including 14 goals and 11 assists, only partly demonstrates his talent. The 26-year-old was a key player for Oliver Glasner, notably scoring the winning goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup final (1-0), ending Palace`s long wait for major silverware.

Given this, it`s not surprising that Tottenham are reportedly willing to meet Eze`s £68 million release clause, especially as there are suggestions that 2024/2025 might have been Son Heung-min`s final season at Spurs, with Saudi Arabian clubs potentially targeting the club legend after a decade in North London.

Tottenham favourites to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace

A significant concern for Levy is the strong interest from Arsenal, who could potentially challenge Spurs for the signing of the former QPR player.

Despite competition, journalist Graeme Bailey reports that Tottenham are leading the race and are the “most advanced” club pursuing the “wonderful player.”

Bailey quoted: “Eberechi Eze expects to leave Crystal Palace this summer, which is no secret.”

Bailey continued: “He has a release clause, and Steve Parish is somewhat open to installments, but any deal requires agreement with Palace. Eze is open to various options, and numerous Premier League clubs have contacted him.”

Bailey added: “As reported, Tottenham are the most advanced, and we hear the player would welcome a move there.”

Other clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Aston Villa have also made enquiries this year, with Arsenal seeing him as a left-sided option.
