Will Davie Selke Sign a New Deal at Hamburg?

Bundesliga News

Hamburger SV head coach Merlin Polzin has offered an update regarding the status of striker Davie Selke, whose contract with the club concluded on July 1st.

Selke was a pivotal figure in Hamburg`s successful return to the Bundesliga following a seven-year absence, leading the league in scoring with 22 goals in the 2024/25 campaign. Despite his vital contribution, it remains uncertain whether the forward, a former player for clubs including Werder Bremen, RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, and Cologne, who is set to turn 31 in January 2026, will be part of the team for the forthcoming season.

Speaking to the press after HSV commenced their pre-season training sessions this week, Polzin stated: “We are all well aware of the impact Davie had for us last year – both on the pitch and off it. We require a little more time before we can share further information. Discussions are currently ongoing with him and the club management.”

Hamburger SV will kick off their 2025/26 competitive season on August 16th with an away fixture against fourth-tier side Pirmasens in the opening round of the DFB Cup. Their first match back in the Bundesliga since May 2018 will take place a week later, an away encounter against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The Red Shorts already have established attacking options in experienced striker Robert Glatzel and young talent Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, aged 23. Furthermore, the club recently reinforced its forward line by acquiring French attacker Rayan Philippe from Bundesliga 2 team Eintracht Braunschweig.
