The DFB Pokal semi-final clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich proved to be a decisive encounter, with the visitors showcasing a superior performance.
Bayern Munich asserted control early in the match, and their dominance was rewarded in the 22nd minute when Harry Kane found the back of the net. With an uncharacteristic amount of space in the Leverkusen box, Kane capitalized to put Bayern ahead 1-0.
In the second half, the home side attempted to be more proactive, but their attacking efforts remained largely ineffective. Throughout the entire game, Leverkusen managed only four shots, with just one on target. This performance was a stark contrast to their previous meeting with Bayern and a disappointing showing from “die Werkself.”
Despite Leverkusen’s improved possession, Bayern continued to be the more potent attacking force. Had it not been for the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who made eight saves, the scoreline would likely have been more severe. Vincent Kompany’s team sealed their victory in the closing moments of the game when Luis Diaz scored, making it 2-0 and securing Bayern’s place in the final in Berlin.
This marks Bayern Munich’s first DFB Pokal final appearance in six years. Their last visit to the final was in 2020, where they defeated Leverkusen during the COVID-affected season. With the domestic double still a possibility, Bayern can now shift their focus to their upcoming Champions League semi-final first leg against PSG.

GGFN Man of the Match: Jamal Musiala (7)
Jamal Musiala is showing a resurgence in form and fitness after recovering from a broken leg earlier in the season. His performance against Leverkusen demonstrated he is hitting his stride at a crucial time for both club and country. His assist for Kane’s opening goal was his fourth in his last four games, and he also created a game-high five chances.
If Bayern is to achieve a treble, Musiala’s current form could be a significant factor in their success.
