Bayern Munich Sells Armindo Sieb to LAFC for €500,000

Bayern Munich has officially confirmed the permanent departure of Armindo Sieb. The 23-year-old attacker is heading to MLS side Los Angeles FC after completing two loan spells with Mainz 05. Transfermarkt values Sieb at €2.5 million, with the sale reported to be for €500,000. This move marks the end of a six-year association with Bayern for a player who was consistently developed away from the first team in Munich.

Sieb joined Bayern as a 17-year-old in 2020, having previously played in the youth systems of RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim. He only managed one senior competitive appearance for the German champions, featuring in the DFB-Pokal, before embarking on a series of loan spells aimed at securing more regular playing time.

Greuther Fürth Stint Rekindled Bayern's Interest

Sieb's early development significantly advanced during his time at Greuther Fürth. Bayern permitted the forward to join the 2. Bundesliga club in 2022, and his performances in the 2023/24 season prompted Munich to activate a buy-back clause. During his breakout season, Sieb scored 12 goals in 33 league appearances and also earned recognition at the international youth level.

His rise had already garnered attention before his return to Bayern, establishing him as one of the more promising young German attackers in the second division. Bayern eventually exercised their option in 2024, signing Sieb to a contract until 2027, but immediately loaned him out for an extended two-year period to Mainz.

Mainz Spell Showcased Flashes of Potential, Not a Consistent Breakthrough

Sieb's two seasons at Mainz proved to be inconsistent. In his first year at the club during the 2025/26 season, the compact and powerful attacker scored two Bundesliga goals and provided three assists, despite starting only six league matches. One of his most notable performances came against his parent club Bayern in December 2024. Stepping in as an emergency replacement, Sieb provided both assists in Mainz's 2-1 victory, showcasing the direct running and physical attributes that had previously made him an intriguing prospect.

His second loan season initially suggested a more prominent role. In September 2025, it was reported that Mainz coach Bo Henriksen guaranteed Sieb another start after the attacker scored in a 4-1 win against Augsburg, describing his performance as "outstanding."

However, this momentum did not fully sustain. Sieb subsequently dropped down the attacking pecking order, particularly after Urs Fischer took over. An opportunity arose in the spring when a serious injury to Silas left Mainz searching for another explosive one-on-one threat. Fischer backed Sieb to step up, identifying him as the closest stylistic replacement for Silas due to his acceleration and ability to take on defenders directly.

Sieb responded with some useful contributions in European competitions, scoring off the bench in a 2-0 Conference League victory over Sigma Olomouc and posing a threat as a substitute against Racing Strasbourg. Despite these flashes of form, a permanent place at Mainz did not materialize. Across his two-year loan, Sieb made 62 competitive appearances and scored five goals.

LAFC Offers Sieb His Next Developmental Opportunity

Sieb returned to Bayern for preseason this summer and trained with the first team, but a realistic pathway into Vincent Kompany's squad was absent. Los Angeles now presents the next chapter. The MLS club maintains a close working relationship with Bayern through the "Red&Gold Football" partnership and has previously signed former Bayern academy player Timothy Tillman.

Sieb also knows Tillman personally, having briefly played together at Fürth before Tillman's move to LAFC in February 2023. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund believes the move to California can finally provide Sieb with the environment necessary for him to take the next step in his career.

“We are very happy that, after Timothy Tillman, he is now the second player to make the move from our campus to our ‘Red&Gold’ partner club Los Angeles FC,” Freund stated. “We know that he is in very good hands there and will take the next step.”

After four consecutive seasons away from Munich on loan or permanent assignment, Sieb's chapter with Bayern has officially closed. In total, the Halle native scored four top-flight German goals in 49 appearances and 16 goals in 63 2. Bundesliga matches.
