Borussia Dortmund Chief on Felix Nmecha: "Exceptional offers are always a possibility, but a transfer this summer is highly unlikely."
Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Nils-Ole Book, speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, has addressed speculation surrounding Felix Nmecha's potential move to Newcastle United. While acknowledging that incredibly high bids can never be entirely discounted, Book believes a transfer for Nmecha during the current transfer window is improbable.
Newcastle United have reportedly identified Nmecha as a key midfield target, potentially as a successor to Bruno Guimarães, should the latter depart for Arsenal. With reports suggesting an agreement between Arsenal and Newcastle for Guimarães' transfer, further links between Nmecha and Newcastle are anticipated. However, no official offer from Newcastle or direct negotiations with Dortmund have been reported.
Dortmund View Felix Nmecha as a Crucial Player
Felix Nmecha committed his future to Borussia Dortmund by signing an extension through 2030 in March. This new contract reportedly includes a release clause of €80 million, which becomes active in 2027 and reduces to €70 million a year later. Neither of these clauses can be activated in the current transfer window, meaning any immediate sale would necessitate direct negotiations with Dortmund. The German club is understood to have placed a valuation of approximately €100 million on Nmecha for an immediate departure.
Despite the interest, Book remains confident that Nmecha will stay at the club. "I would consider that [a transfer] highly unlikely," Book stated. "Of course, there can theoretically always be astronomical sums, but in Felix’s case, I can pretty safely rule it out this summer."
