Dortmund's Diant Ramaj in Talks for Copenhagen Return

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj might be heading back to FC Copenhagen for a second loan spell, as negotiations for his departure from the Bundesliga club are underway. According to reports from Danish outlet Bold.dk, Sky Germany, and Kicker, Copenhagen is in discussions with Dortmund regarding the 24-year-old goalkeeper. A loan agreement that includes a purchase option is reportedly being considered, though a final deal has not yet been reached.

Kicker indicates that Ramaj has not yet traveled to Denmark. However, the goalkeeper is open to rejoining Copenhagen, where he had a successful loan period in the latter half of the 2024/25 season. The proposed purchase option is said to be around €5 million, which is close to the amount Dortmund originally paid Ajax for Ramaj in February 2025.

Ramaj has yet to make a competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund's senior team.

Copenhagen Return Could Reunite Ramaj with Successful Loan Club

Dortmund acquired Ramaj from Ajax for €5 million in February 2025, signing him to a contract through 2029 before immediately sending him on loan to Copenhagen. During his spell with the Danish club, Ramaj played 19 matches, conceding just 14 goals and keeping ten clean sheets, contributing to Copenhagen's domestic double win.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt prospect also emphasized during that loan period the importance of consistent playing time for his development. In a March interview, Ramaj expressed confidence in his abilities while acknowledging the significant challenge of displacing Gregor Kobel at Dortmund.

Last summer, it was reported that Ramaj had no desire to remain solely as Kobel's backup, leading Dortmund to explore another loan opportunity. Heidenheim eventually became the preferred destination. After an agreement was reached between the clubs, Ramaj returned to his former academy club and was immediately named the starting goalkeeper.

The decision to place Ramaj ahead of the long-serving goalkeeper Kevin Müller was a surprise, providing the Dortmund loanee with the regular Bundesliga minutes he had sought. Ramaj maintained his starting position throughout Heidenheim's challenging relegation campaign.

An assessment from the winter noted that his raw statistics, including a low number of clean sheets and a high goals-conceded tally, did not fully reflect his individual performances behind one of the league's weaker defensive units.

Dortmund Pathway Remains Blocked

Ramaj has since returned to Dortmund, but his path to the first team remains effectively closed. Kobel is firmly established as the club's first-choice goalkeeper, with Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes, and Silas Ostrzinski providing additional depth. Ramaj was also notably absent from Dortmund's preseason trip to Japan, further indicating that he is not a prominent part of the club's immediate plans. Copenhagen, meanwhile, may soon be in need of a new goalkeeper.

For Dortmund, a loan deal with a €5 million purchase option could also provide a way to recoup most, if not all, of the fee invested in Ramaj 18 months ago. For the goalkeeper himself, the primary motivation remains unchanged: to secure regular playing time.
