Mainz has established a deadline of August 27 concerning the potential transfer of Kaishu Sano. According to reports from BILD, the German club is determined to secure a suitable replacement before permitting the Japanese midfielder's departure.
The 25-year-old has garnered interest from several prominent clubs, including Liverpool, Newcastle United, and RB Leipzig. Sano's current contract with Mainz extends until the conclusion of June 2028, alleviating any immediate pressure on the club to sanction his sale.
The report indicates that Mainz will only entertain offers for Sano if they meet a valuation of at least €60 million. Christian Heidel, Mainz's sporting director, confirmed to BILD that the club will not consider selling Sano on August 31, emphasizing the necessity of having time to react to any potential departure.
Sano arrived at Mainz from Kashima Antlers in 2024 for a transfer fee of €2.5 million. He has since made 34 league appearances for the club across his two seasons. In the previous season, he contributed one goal and two assists in the Bundesliga. Sano also represented the Japan national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, notably scoring against Brazil in the round of 32.
