Mohamed Amoura: RB Leipzig Talks Imminent or Exaggerated?

An advisor for Wolfsburg attacker Mohamed Amoura has indicated that the Algerian international is nearing a transfer to RB Leipzig. However, Sky Germany has refuted reports of an imminent agreement or advanced negotiations.

The Algerian football portal Maghreb Foot, as reported by transfermarkt.de, quoted an unnamed advisor to the 26-year-old, who is officially represented by the DWMA agency. The advisor stated, "Amoura will play for the German club RB Leipzig, with whom we are in negotiations. The negotiations with the German club are already very advanced."

Conversely, Sky Germany has contradicted these assertions, reporting that Amoura is not on the verge of joining Leipzig and that no advanced negotiations are currently underway.

The conflicting information leaves the prospect of any potential deal uncertain. Reputable sources have yet to provide details regarding a transfer fee or contract terms.

Leipzig Seeking Attacking Reinforcements

RB Leipzig is reportedly in the market for an additional striker to compete with Rômulo. The club may also consider parting ways with Conrad Harder after his challenging first Bundesliga season.

Hoffenheim attacker Fisnik Asllani has also been mentioned as a target as Leipzig aims to bolster its attack. The 23-year-old's future remains undecided amidst interest from Barcelona.

Following the proposed move of Yan Diomande to Real Madrid, Leipzig is expected to have sufficient funds for another significant attacking acquisition. Several European clubs had increased their offers for the Ivorian international before the Spanish giants took the lead.

Amoura could provide Leipzig with a versatile option, capable of playing as a central striker or on the left wing. However, the 26-year-old is currently sidelined with a thigh injury and is expected to miss Wolfsburg's 2. Bundesliga season opener against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Amoura Expected to Depart Wolfsburg After Relegation

A move away from Wolfsburg following the club's relegation from the Bundesliga has long seemed probable. Amoura initially joined Wolfsburg on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, with the German club later making the transfer permanent for a reported package of approximately €17.75 million.

Amoura's strong debut Bundesliga season quickly attracted external interest. Bayer Leverkusen was reportedly linked with a €50 million bid after the attacker recorded nine goals and nine assists in his first 21 league appearances.

Wolfsburg was open to offers a year ago and listed Amoura among five players available for transfer. Benfica emerged as the most serious suitor.

However, Wolfsburg reportedly rejected a €34 million package from the Portuguese club, having demanded at least €40 million. Amoura was understood to have agreed to personal terms with Benfica, but a deal could not be finalized.

Wolfsburg ultimately withdrew from the transfer market and kept Amoura for the 2025/26 campaign.

Disciplinary Issues Marred Wolfsburg's Decline

Amoura has scored 18 goals and provided 16 assists in 67 competitive appearances for Wolfsburg. His second season was less productive, with eight goals and four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The forward also faced scrutiny off the pitch. An altercation at training with teammate Joakim Mæhle led to potential disciplinary consequences towards the end of the 2024/25 season.

Wolfsburg later confirmed another disciplinary suspension after omitting Amoura from their matchday squad against Köln in January.
