Uli Hoeneß Congratulates Bayern Munich on Bundesliga Scoring Record, Praises Young Talent
Bayern Munich honorary president and German football legend Uli Hoeneß has expressed his congratulations on the club breaking the all-time Bundesliga scoring record. He specifically commended the contributions of Lennart Karl and Jamal Musiala in achieving this milestone.
The record was ultimately broken by midfielder Leon Goretzka, who admitted to being unaware of his role in making history during the match. Goretzka even humorously recalled his own goal record from the 2018/19 season.
Hoeneß, now 74, was part of the 1971/72 Bayern team that set the previous record of 101 goals in a single season. That same season also saw Gerd Müller set a 40-goal individual Bundesliga record that stood for nearly fifty years until Robert Lewandowski surpassed it. Hoeneß himself contributed 13 goals to that historic team at the age of 19.

“In football, records are always secondary to titles,” Hoeneß stated. “But the fact that this team has now broken our 101-goal mark after so many decades says a lot. I was delighted that young players like Lennart Karl scored the 100th goal last week, and the same goes for Jamal Musiala, who more than deserved the 101st goal after a long injury.”
“Such players show that Bayern is well-equipped for the future,” Hoeneß added. “What I like best is that these players don’t stop. They keep going even after the fourth or fifth goal. That’s how you break records—and most importantly: that’s how you bring joy to the fans, game after game.”
