Liverpool Nearing Deal for Barcelona's Ronald Araujo on Loan
Liverpool is reportedly on the verge of securing a season-long loan agreement for Barcelona's Uruguayan defender, Ronald Araujo. The proposed deal also includes an option for the Reds to purchase the player permanently.
Araujo, who has served as club captain, is expected to join the Liverpool squad by the end of the week. The 27-year-old centre-back has been instrumental in Barcelona's La Liga victories in three of the last four seasons.
Despite having a contract with Barcelona until 2031, Araujo's first-team opportunities were limited last season, with only 11 league starts. This was partly due to the emergence of Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi as the preferred central defensive partnership for the Catalan club.
Since his arrival at Barcelona from Uruguayan club Boston River in 2018, Araujo has accumulated over 200 appearances for the Spanish powerhouse.
Liverpool's pursuit of a new defender comes in the wake of Ibrahima Konate's departure from Anfield to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
