Mainz 05 Remains Hopeful of Securing Stefan Posch Permanently

Bundesliga News

Mainz 05 is actively working to sign Austrian defender Stefan Posch on a permanent deal. The club’s sporting director, speaking to the Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung, expressed the desire to keep the 28-year-old, who has re-established himself in the Bundesliga since his return.

Posch’s Current Situation

After a period of fluctuating form and club changes in Italy’s Serie A, Stefan Posch sought stability. His January return to the Bundesliga, under a complex agreement, saw him quickly become a crucial part of Mainz’s back three under head coach Urs Fischer.

Although he hasn’t scored in the Bundesliga, Posch has been instrumental in Mainz’s European campaign, scoring in recent Conference League victories. He has played every minute of his 13 appearances across all competitions since joining.

While a permanent transfer would be mutually beneficial, the willingness of his parent club, Como 1907, to part ways with Posch remains uncertain. His current market valuation of €5.5 million on Transfermarkt is considered by many to be lower than his actual worth.

Sporting Director’s Comments

Mainz sporting director Stefan Bungert stated, “We definitely wish to keep a player who embodies everything that defines Mainz 05. We are actively pursuing this and want to retain him longer, but there are issues with the parent club.”
