Alejandro Grimaldo Joins Atlético Madrid

Atlético Madrid has officially secured the services of Alejandro Grimaldo, who makes the move from Bayer Leverkusen. The Spanish defender has signed a reported four-year contract with Diego Simeone’s squad, marking Atlético’s inaugural signing of the summer transfer window.

Grimaldo arrived at Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 on a free transfer from Benfica. During his tenure, he became an indispensable player for Xabi Alonso’s team, contributing significantly to their historic undefeated Bundesliga title and their DFB Pokal victory in the 2023/24 season.

Throughout his time with Leverkusen, the 30-year-old amassed a trophy cabinet featuring three titles. He showcased his attacking prowess by scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists in 145 appearances. Grimaldo is particularly renowned for his exceptional ability in set-piece situations and his versatility, capable of playing as a left-back, a wing-back, or even in a more advanced role on the left flank.
