Chelsea Keen on Gambian Youngster Adama Jeng Amidst European Competition

Chelsea has entered the pursuit of highly regarded Gambian talent Adama Jeng, according to reports.

Jeng emerged from Gambia's Samger FC youth system, an academy that has previously produced notable players like Sulayman Marreh and Musa Ann. His recent performances for Gambia's Under-17 team during the WAFU Zone A U-17 tournament in Senegal garnered significant attention.

He stood out during the competition, playing a crucial role in his team reaching the final. His displays attracted interest from multiple clubs.

Among those interested is Chelsea, who, according to a report, are now in contention to sign the forward. Impressed by his tournament performances, the club sees the young player as a future prospect and is reportedly preparing a move to secure his signature.

Competition Looms

However, Chelsea faces considerable competition. European powerhouses Bayern Munich, along with Benfica, Sporting CP, and Paris FC, are also monitoring Jeng ahead of a potential transfer.

Since the Clearlake takeover in May 2023, Chelsea has focused its transfer strategy on acquiring promising young talent from South America and Europe. Their scouting in Africa has been less extensive, leading to the appointment of Achirou Gaoh and Seyi Olofinjana to oversee scouting operations across the continent.

This shift has already resulted in reported trials for several young players, including Hafiz Umar (formerly of Ojodu City) and Emile Witbooi of Cape Town City. Nigerian striker Victor Divine Emmanuel, who joined BlueCo's sister club Strasbourg in the summer of 2025, also participated in trials.

Strasbourg has also continued to recruit Senegalese talent, with Yaya Diémé joining compatriot Pape Demba Diop.

While it's uncertain whether Jeng would join Chelsea directly or be placed at Strasbourg, securing his signature would bring a highly promising African talent into the club's orbit, potentially ahead of rivals like Bayern Munich.
