Liverpool Star Criticized for Nervous Performances

Milos Kerkez, a Liverpool defender, has faced criticism for his performances since joining the club. Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen noted that Kerkez appears nervous and that the team's jersey seems "heavy" on him.

Kerkez was signed from AFC Bournemouth as a potential successor to Andrew Robertson, whose performances had shown signs of decline in the previous season. Despite impressing at his former club, where he contributed to goals and clean sheets, Kerkez has struggled to replicate that form at Anfield. In 48 appearances across all competitions last season, he managed only four goal contributions and six clean sheets. This season, he has secured just one clean sheet in six matches.

Owen highlighted that Liverpool faces challenges in their fullback positions. He pointed out Conor Bradley's fitness issues and Jeremie Frimpong's preference for an advanced role, stating Frimpong is not a natural defender. Owen also believes Kostas Tsimikas is not sufficient for regular starts at Liverpool.

"Kerkez has struggled since being there," Owen stated. "He looks nervous and lost in the red shirt and it looks heavy on him. I think the two full-backs are a problem."

Kerkez, an attacking left-back known for his speed and ability to deliver crosses, showcased his potential at Vitality Stadium. He scored twice and provided five assists in 41 games for Bournemouth, helping them to 10 clean sheets. However, this form has not translated to Liverpool.

Despite the current difficulties, Kerkez is still young. He has time to improve and fulfill his potential, possibly becoming a valuable asset for Liverpool in the future. With Tsimikas' contract running until next summer, the club might need to find a new left-sided defender if Andoni Iraola decides to move on from the Greek international.
