Bayer Leverkusen has officially completed the signing of Argentinian international Facundo Medina from Olympique Marseille. The 27-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract until June 2031. This acquisition strengthens Leverkusen's squad as part of their summer rebuilding efforts.

Leverkusen is reportedly paying approximately €20 million for Medina, with potential additional bonuses. Medina, a left-footed player, can play in the center or on the left side of defense, offering a different profile to other recent signings. He brings physicality, defensive aggression, and the ability to play in a back three.

Medina spent five years in French football, first with RC Lens and then with Marseille since 2025. He was part of the Argentinian squad at the recent World Cup, featuring in the final match. This makes him another Leverkusen player with World Cup final experience, alongside Exequiel Palacios, who reportedly influenced Medina's decision to join the club.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes praised Medina as an experienced professional with a strong mentality, highlighting his assertiveness and aggressive tackling as valuable additions to the squad.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen's efforts to re-sign Moussa Diaby are facing increased competition. While initial reports suggested progress in personal terms with Diaby and negotiations with Al-Ittihad, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Inter Milan is now actively trying to sign Diaby and has not yet made an offer. Crucially, Diaby has reportedly not yet accepted Leverkusen's proposal, making the situation more open than previously believed.

A return for Diaby would be a significant boost to Leverkusen's attacking lineup. He previously spent four seasons at the club, scoring 49 goals and providing 48 assists in 173 appearances before moving to Aston Villa in 2023. His pace and directness would provide an excellent option on the right wing, with the potential to also play more centrally.
