Joao Palhinha Agrees Personal Terms with Aston Villa
Joao Palhinha has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Aston Villa and has informed Bayern Munich of his intention to return to the Premier League. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese international is ready to join Villa once the two clubs finalize a deal. Negotiations between Aston Villa and the German club are expected to commence, as the player's side of the potential transfer has already been settled.
This development marks a significant progression from recent days. Over the weekend, Aston Villa's sporting director, Damian Vidagany, publicly acknowledged the club's interest in Palhinha. Villa is seeking midfield reinforcements following Amadou Onana's season-ending injury, and Vidagany identified Palhinha as a player who could fit Unai Emery's tactical plans.
Bayern Munich was reportedly seeking around €25 million for a permanent transfer. Palhinha's current estimated market value, according to the latest Transfermarkt listings, is €15 million. It is still possible that the two clubs could agree on a loan deal that includes a purchase option.
Palhinha Ready to Conclude Difficult Bayern Chapter
A move would finally bring an end to Palhinha's unusual tenure at Bayern Munich. The former Fulham midfielder joined the German giants in 2024 for a fee of approximately €51 million but found it challenging to secure regular playing time under Vincent Kompany.
Bayern subsequently loaned Palhinha to Tottenham Hotspur for the 2025/26 campaign. The Portuguese international later expressed his dissatisfaction with his first season in Munich, stating that he had not been given the opportunities he felt he deserved.
Tottenham ultimately decided against making his move permanent, and Palhinha returned to Säbener Straße this summer. His chances of earning another opportunity at Bayern remained slim.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Kompany supported Bayern's decision to openly communicate that Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza were available for transfer. The subsequent permanent signing of teenage midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye added further competition to an already crowded Bayern midfield.
Palhinha has now seemingly made his own preference clear. He has reciprocated Villa's long-standing interest by agreeing to personal terms. The remaining question is whether the Premier League club can meet Bayern's financial demands.
