Arsenal's Tzolis: A European Gem Emerges After Norwich Struggles

Christos Tzolis has become a notable transfer target for Arsenal, following a career-defining season where he was directly involved in 40 goals, netting 17 and contributing 23 assists as Club Brugge clinched the Belgian league title.

However, his path to success was not without its challenges, particularly during his three-year tenure at Norwich City from 2021 to 2024, where he managed only three goals in 30 appearances.

Tzolis significantly reignited his career during a loan spell with German second-division side Fortuna Dusseldorf in the 2023-24 season. There, he demonstrated his prolific scoring ability with 24 goals in 35 games. This performance preceded his move from Norwich to Club Brugge, where he quickly established himself as one of the league's standout players.

Since then, Tzolis has consistently elevated his game, evolving into one of Europe's most dependable creative forces.

In a recent appearance for Arsenal in Cardiff, Tzolis delivered two assists and led the team in passes into the final third. Despite not possessing explosive pace, he proves highly effective with the ball at his feet, a work ethic that has garnered significant approval from manager Mikel Arteta.

Tzolis has stepped into the role previously held by Leandro Trossard, who transferred to Besiktas in July. Arteta has noted similarities between the two players.

While Trossard recorded more goal contributions in the previous Champions League season, Tzolis created nearly twice as many chances (13 compared to seven) and made significantly more successful passes in the final third (138 versus 80).

Tzolis' current form should not come as a surprise to those who have followed his trajectory. He has already proven his ability to perform against top European clubs.

In the Champions League last season, he scored against formidable opponents like Atalanta and Atletico Madrid, and also provided an assist against Barcelona.

His exceptional creative output is further highlighted by his performance in the Belgian Pro League during the 2025-26 campaign, where he generated 135 chances. A notable 52 of these (38.5%) originated from set-pieces, including a pre-season assist for Piero Hincapie against Real Betis from a corner kick.
