Barcelona Youngster Xavi Espart Draws Pedri Comparisons
Barcelona's emerging talent, Xavi Espart, has drawn comparisons to his teammate and World Cup winner Pedri following his first call-up to Spain's U21 squad.
The 19-year-old defender/midfielder has impressed significantly at the start of the season. Given a key role at left-back by coach Hansi Flick, Espart has delivered a series of standout performances.
So far in five La Liga starts, Espart has contributed one goal and two assists.
This consistent excellence was recognized internationally, with Espart promoted from Spain's U19s to the U21s.
During the unveiling of the latest squad, Spain U21 coach David Gordo commented on Espart.
Gordo stated that the Barcelona academy product possesses many of the same attributes as Pedri:
"His greatest strength is his exceptional grasp of the game, of space and timing. He can perform from any position. He's effective as a central midfielder and as a full-back. He's highly intelligent, always anticipating. In some respects, he reminds me of Pedri due to his understanding of the game. It appears time slows down for him."
