Chelsea Urged to Hijack Liverpool's Pursuit of PSG Star Bradley Barcola
Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris has encouraged the club to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, aiming to disrupt Liverpool's transfer plans.
While Chelsea has already strengthened their left flank this summer by signing Morgan Rogers, with other options like Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto also available, Morris expressed a desire to see Barcola at Stamford Bridge.
Morris was reportedly surprised by Chelsea's ability to secure the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, especially considering Aston Villa's Champions League qualification and Arsenal's reported interest. He noted the contrast with Liverpool's situation, where the team will not be participating in European football next season.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Morris stated his wish for Chelsea to pursue Barcola, acknowledging the difficulty given the player's recent Champions League successes:
"I would have loved to have been in a position where we [Chelsea] can go after Barcola. But I said this previously, I was really surprised that we managed to get Morgan Rogers through the door when he’s playing for a team that’s already in the Champions League and reportedly had the champions of England [Arsenal] after him as well. I was really surprised that we managed to get him through the door so I think it would be wishful thinking if we were then able to get another player of that ilk [Barcola] who has just won the Champions League twice."
Following Mohamed Salah's departure, Liverpool has acquired Victor Muñoz. However, their manager is reportedly seeking a new marquee winger, with Barcola identified as their top target.
Reports indicate that Liverpool is in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain, but the French club is seeking a substantial fee of around £145 million.
Despite not always being a starter in crucial Champions League matches, Barcola has demonstrated his offensive capabilities. In the 2024/25 campaign, he contributed to 41 goals, scoring 13 and assisting six across all competitions last season. He has also been instrumental in his team's recent successes, including multiple Ligue 1 titles and two Champions League trophies, securing his place in the French national team.
Barcola is considered a top-tier player who is yet to reach his full potential, making him a potentially valuable acquisition for Chelsea. It remains to be seen if Chelsea will indeed attempt to outbid Liverpool for his signature in the coming days.
